Because It Is Green

Because it's green. Because I'm sorry. Because there's nothing else left to say and this is a gesture with some grace. Because of Markus Naslund's slump and Matt Cooke's groin. Because of all the times you cooked Chinese chicken soup in my kitchen. Because of chicken feet and egg tarts and rides to the airport. Because sometimes you're on time and it's jarring. Because you're going to need one of these. Because of your grandfather's poems about flowers. Because of that Iron and Wine song I played for you that you forget. Because of the insomnia. Because I heard from someone you're still pretty. Because sometimes I am a hermit. Because sometimes I am mean. Because of your generosity. Because from the high windows the ropes are not long enough to reach the ground. Because of Egypt but not Yellowknife. Because is a subordinate conjunction. Because I know. Because I know there's no such thing as Chinese chicken soup. Because there's nothing else left to say and this is a gesture with some grace. Because I'm sorry. Because it's green.
