Thurston Owl

You have only one photo of your childhood
and it’s of you and a screech owl you captured
and kept as a pet for two years. You had this book
about the animal kingdom and it said screech owls
lived in apple orchards in hollowed out trees.
It just so happened you hung out in an apple
orchard. So you took a flashlight and went
to the apple orchard at night and reached
into a tree and grabbed a screech owl
and put him in your hat.

You named him Thurston Owl.
All you did was follow the directions.
