And that: It's raining in Vancouver and all the blinds are down and the windows closed and Saran Wrapped to keep in heat.
And So: to make up for it I've got the following windows open: Firefox, Outlook Express, Macromedia Dreamweaver, FileZilla FTP, Adobe Photoshop and Notepad. Along with Dr. McGillicuddy's Fireball Whiskey and being naive enough to think it might work, these are the tools for building a magazine.
Probably ought to mention: That the position of Editor at Forget now falls on the nimble shoulders of Mike Lecky, AKA The Kid AKA Words AKA Leckdog AKA The Royal Reserves. Our new and forever shifting masthead is located here, and if it were not our masthead would probably be titled, An Incomprehensive List of People Who Have Never Been in the Same Room at the Same Time.
Regarding the image above: It graced the top of the story we published on February 14th, 2001, six years ago today. The low resolution and strange colours can be attributed to the fact the photo was shot on a very early model digital camera. It was a Sony Mavica, stored photos on 3 1/2" floppy disks (30 to a disk) at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480. It was the size of a grapefruit and could do similar damage if thrown.
So: What does that say about technology and the Internet and where it's going? What does that say about us and where we've been? Probably nothing.
Except maybe: If we, Forget, were a force of nature, if I could pick, I mean, we'd be an iceberg. Or I guess that doesn't count, so a glacier. Not so concerned with showing up and tearing the place apart, not too interested in levies and skyscrapers, just moving. Slowly. Ourselves and mountains.
